NAU men, Sac State women claim Big Sky All-Sports awards

OGDEN, UtahThe Big Sky Conference’s All-Sports awards were created to celebrate the institutions that have the most success, in respective genders.

The male and female All-Sports awards track the performances of each Big Sky team in the season, where the numbers are compiled together to see what athletic department had the best overall performance in the sports for each respective gender.

For their performances throughout the season, the Northern Arizona men and Sacramento State women earned the All-Sports awards for their respective genders.

The Lumberjacks, who won the Big Sky Conference’s titles in indoor and outdoor track and field, along with high finishes in men’s cross country, men’s tennis and football, finished in the lead spot with 59 points. Northern Arizona edged Weber State by a point in the final standings, as the Wildcats finished with 58 points.

Weber State won the Big Sky men’s basketball and men’s tennis crowns, while finishing high in men’s cross country. The Wildcats also had their highest football finish in five seasons.

Men’s golf does not count in the final standings for the male All-Sports Award.

Montana placed two points behind Weber State, after Big Sky runner-up finishes in three sports (football, men’s basketball, outdoor track and field).

Sacramento State’s women won the All-Sports Award with a total of 75 points. In the women’s competition, each school is allowed to drop their two lowest scores.

The Hornets won the Big Sky’s indoor track and field competition, while finishing in the runner-up spot in outdoor track and field, softball and golf. The Hornets also shared the tennis crown with Northern Arizona.

Northern Arizona finished two points behind Sac State, as the Lumberjacks won the volleyball and outdoor track and field crowns, while sharing the tennis title.The Lumberjacks also placed well in golf and indoor track and field.

The All-Sports awards play a prominent role in the final point total for the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup, which has an academic component with it.

Only full members of the Big Sky Conference are eligible for the All-Sports awards.
