The first weekend of league action in the Big Sky Conference featured big performances from several players but Weber State’s Jeremy Senglin and Southern Utah’s Randy Onwuasor stood out from the rest, earning the pair a share of this week’s league honors.
Onwuasor, a junior from Inglewood, California, posted a double-double in Southern Utah’s 93-80 win over Northern Arizona on Saturday. The guard scored 37 points on 12-of-23 shooting including 7-of-11 from behind the arc. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound former Texas Tech transfer also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to give SUU its first conference win of the season.
Onwuasor is tied for the the Big Sky lead in scoring at 23.1 points per game with Montana State’s Tyler Hall. Onwuasor also ranks fourth in defensive rebounds with 5.2 per contest.
Senglin picked up Big Sky honors for the third consecutive week after leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 start in conference play. The senior averaged 28 points and seven rebounds per game with 13 3-pointers in Weber State’s two wins at Montana State and Montana.
In Thursday’s 87-85 victory at MSU, Senglin scored 27 points and downed eight 3-pointers. In Sunday’s 84-81 overtime win at Montana, he scored 29 points with 10 rebounds and five treys, including the game-winner with less than a second to play.Sunday’s performance marked Senglin’s second-career double-double.
On the season, Senglin is now third in the Big Sky in scoring at 20.4 points per game. He also leads the conference and ranks third in the nation in 3-pointers per game at 4.3.
