After more than a week of speculation, Danny Sprinkle is heading to the Mountain West.
After leading Montana State to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in program history, Sprinkle’s name has been a hot one in conversations about coaching openings across Division I men’s hoops.
The strongest inclination had Sprinkle potentially taking over at Utah State. And on Friday, that speculation became fact.
According to Jeff Goodman of Stadium, Sprinkle and Utah State are in the midst of finalizing a deal. Sprinkle replaces Ryan Odom, who left Utah State to become the head coach at VCU.

Sprinkle has done a tremendous job at Montana State with back-to-back tourney appearances. He replaces Ryan Odom – who left for VCU.
Sprinkle takes over a Utah State program that has 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 11 since 2000. The Aggies won 26 games last season and earned a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In their final game under Odom, Utah State lost 76-65 to Missouri in the first round of the Big Dance.
Sprinkle led Montana State to 52 wins over the last two seasons. In 2022, MSU won its first outright regular-season league title in 20 years and advanced to its first NCAA Tournament since 1996. This season, MSU won 25 games and won the Big Sky Tournament for the second year in a row to earn consecutive trips to the Big Dance.
Sprinkle went 81-43 in four seasons leading his alma mater, including 49-23 in Big Sky Conference play.
