Ryan Davis remembers competing against his older brothers and cousins any chance he got growing up in Billings. Ryan’s father, Doug, kept a few old football helmets around the house and Ryan’s exuberance would peak when the chosen game involved the pigskin rather than a basketball.
Davis’ Native American roots — his mother, Deborah, is a Lower Brule Lakota and his father, Doug, is a Blackfeet — cater much more to a love of the hardwood than the gridiron. Ryan Davis never remembers loving basketball or looking forward to the winter season like his four brothers or their collection of cousins across Montana. “Not enough contact for me,” Ryan says now.
