Eastern Washington has been in this situation before.

The No. 7 Eagles won the 2010 FCS national championship. The next season, injuries ravaged the roster, aiding in an 0-3 start with No. 4 Montana State coming to Cheney. EWU rallied to finish the season 6-5 but missed the playoffs and a Big Sky title for the only time this decade.
