Montana State hosted its annual Sonny Holland Spring Classic football game at Bobcat Stadium on a blue-sky Bozeman afternoon on April 20, 2024.
The “Blue” team led by senior quarterback Tommy Mellott and the top offensive line “beat” the White team led by the No. 1 defense 23-14. Montana State saw a bright spot in its kicking game as sophomore Casey Kautzman hit field goals of 45, 40 and 30 yards in the first half of the scrimmage.
Sophomore TE Hunter Provience caught a pair of touchdowns, one thrown by Mellott and the other by redshirt freshman Chance Wilson to lead the Blue team.
Redshirt freshman RB Adam Jones scored a pair of touchdowns, accounting for both scores by the “White” team Saturday.
Following the action, MSU fourth-year head coach Brent Vigen addressed the media at the Bobcat Athletic Complex.
Montana State’s offensive line returns starters at center in senior Justus Perkins, RT in senior Marcus Wehr & LT with sophomore Conner Moore. Saturday, Burke Mastel (6-4, 296) worked in at left guard and senior Cole Sain played right guard for the top-flight offensive line. Perkins addressed the media following the game.
Earlier this week, DE Brody Grebe was named MSU’s No. 41. The number is given to a Montanan who represents Treasure State values. MT was the 41st state to join union.
