Cameron Satterwhite is on the move again. And his most recent stay was much shorter than his previous two.
Satterwhite, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who joined the Montana men’s basketball team in the off-season, has left the program according to sources close to the Griz. Satterwhite did not appear in any of UM’s last four games.
The graduate transfer spent two seasons at Northern Arizona of the Big Sky Conference before earning his undergraduate degree in journalism from NAU last spring. NAU was the second stop of Satterwhite’s college basketball journey. The Ventura, California native started his career at Loyola-Chicago.
Satterwhite’s time with the Grizzlies was short-lived. He made his first and only start this season in Montana’s 64-63 loss at Southern Utah to open Big Sky play on December 3. He played 21 minutes and scored two points in that game.
He also played 18 minutes in UM’s 76-62 loss at USC to open the season on November 28. He finished that game 1-of-9 from the field, including 0-of-7 from beyond the arc and scored two points.
Satterwhite did not play in Montana’s second game at Southern Utah two days after the first one-point loss but he was unavailable for disclosed reasons. He was not dressed out for that game. He also did not play in Montana’s 63-50 loss at Georgia last week or in Saturday’s 102-42 win over Yellowstone Christian College in Missoula. Satterwhite was dressed out and available to play Saturday against YCC.
He ends his Griz career with 39 minutes played and four points scored. He finished 2-of-13 from the floor and missed all eight of his 3-point attempts. He grabbed three total rebounds, dished out three total assists and notched three total steals.

Coming out of Gilbert Christian High in Arizona, Satterwhite was ranked as one of the Top 50 guards in the nation at his position according to multiple recruiting outlets. He led his high school to Arizona Division II state championships in 2013 and 2015, averaging more than 18 points per game in each season to earn a ranking as the No. 2 recruit in the state. As a junior, he won the Arizona prep slam dunk contest but missed his senior season with a torn ACL.
Satterwhite spent his first two college seasons at Loyola Chicago, where he played in 65 games. He appeared in 35 games during the 2017-2018 season which saw the 11th-seeded Ramblers make one of the most unlikely runs in the history of the NCAA Tournament all the way to the Final Four. Satterwhite played 10.4 minutes per game on that team, averaging 1.7 points and 1.6 rebounds per contest. Satterwhite played in four of Loyola’s NCAA tournament games as a sophomore.
Following that run, Satterwhite transferred to Northern Arizona and sat out the 2018-19 season. Last campaign, he played 24.3 minutes per game for the Lumberjacks, averaging 9.0 points per game while shooting 42.7 percent from the floor. He hit 30 3-pointers and shot 38 percent from deep for a team that split with Montana during the regular-season but lost in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament in interim head coach Shane Burcar’s first at the helm. Burcar received a contract extension in the off-season.
Satterwhite scored 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and committed five turnovers in NAU’s 79-72 loss at Montana last January. In UM’s trip to Flagstaff, Satterwhite did not start but did play 22 minutes, again scoring 10 points and chipping in an assist as the Lumberjacks posted a 57-56 win that was the first loss in a stretch that saw Montana drop three of four down the stretch.
Satterwhite went 6-of-9 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in two games against the Griz, including going 3-of-3 and hitting both his 3s in the NAU win.
